On Saturday 7 October 2017, 750+ people gathered on Park Beach, Coffs Harbour, to spell it out for our politicians: #StopAdani! This was Coffs Harbour's biggest every protest focused on climate and coal, and just one of 45 brilliant actions around the country involving an estimated 18 000 people, including two other actions in Luke Hartsuyker's electorate of Cowper - at Port Macquarie and Scotts Head.
Thank you to everyone who came along to stand up for the climate, Reef and the rights of the Wangan and Jagalingou people.
With music thanks to Luke Wilton, Matt Harvey and the fabulous #StopAdani choir.
Thank you to all the passionate, inspiring speakers: Michael Jarrett, Gumbaynggirr elder with a Welcome to country; Dr Sally Townley, Coffs Harbour City Councillor; Jenny Ellis, Gamilaroi elder; Jeremy Buckingham, Greens NSW MLC; John Ross and Marnie Cotton from Coffs Coast Climate Action Group; and Tu'ulenana Iuli with the Haka (as well as leading the chants!).
It was an energised community gathering, brimming with determination to stop this disastrous mine!
We will continue stand up for the climate, Reef and indigenous rights: announcing a weekly vigil outside Luke Hartsuyker MP's office - every Friday at 12noon, 39 Little Street. Please join us!
Here is a sample of local media coverage: Coffs Coast Advocate and NBN News.
Some national media here: ABC.
