Coffs Coast Climate Action group
Coffs Coast Climate Action Group is an open, diverse and energetic group of local residents working together to promote action to stop climate change. We campaign for an urgent transition away from fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) towards renewable energy. We formed in late 2013, following a gathering of 300 people for the National Day of Climate Action at the Harbourside Markets (pictured above).
Our vision is for a safe and stable climate which supports our community’s quality of life for future generations. Our mission is to work with our community to promote action on climate change. We seek to inspire our community with a positive vision of our future; a future powered by clean, renewable energy; a future which we are all a part of creating. While recognising the immediate and growing threats of climate breakdown, requiring an emergency scale response, we also see opportunities for the Coffs community and local economy in sustainable jobs, regional development, cheaper electricity and increased energy security through decentralised energy production.
Affiliations and networks: Coffs Coast Climate Action Group is a proudly independent, grassroots community group. We are not affiliated to any political party. We are a member organisation of Climate Action Network Australia (CANA). We see ourselves as part of a broader movement of citizens’ groups everywhere.
Membership and structure: We are an open group of individuals, working as a consensus-based collective. We are not incorporated and have no formalised membership. We welcome everybody’s involvement and encourage you to contribute your ideas and energy in whatever way you are able. We are all volunteers. Please let us know if there is an area you feel passionate about working on. We can help connect you with others with similar interests or complementary skills.
